During our medical clerkship, we were feeling the lack of an appropriate text onacid-base disorders. Later on, we found several books on the topic. Nevertheless, wefound none of them appropriate for medical students; the books were either toodetailed and lengthy to be used by a medical student who has a limited amount oftime, or too simple and concise to meet the needs of daily practice. This turned awheel in our mind to develop a proper text that we were long looking for—simple,concise, and informative.This book consists of nine chapters. It is assumed that the reader has only a verybasic knowledge of mathematics, chemistry, and medical terminology. We, therefore,decided to start from the scratch. The first four chapters deal with the basicknowledge necessary for understanding the clinical concepts, which are explainedin Chapters 5–9. The material explored in each section is further clarified by severalexamples throughout the text.
