Like the previous edition, the third edition of Fluid, Electrolyte and Acid-BaseDisorders provides a clear and concise understanding of the fundamentals of theseclinical problems that are encountered daily in our practice. Most of the chaptershave been updated and expanded. In particular, many individual chapters on acid-basebalance have been included in this edition of the book. Also, two other specialtopics have been added. With the inclusion of these new chapters, the number ofstudy questions has increased.Similar to the second edition, each chapter begins with pertinent basic physiologyfollowed by its clinical disorders. Cases for each fluid, electrolyte, and acid-basedisorder are discussed with answers. In addition, single board-type answerswith explanations are provided for each clinical disorder to increase the knowledgeof the physician.The revision of the book would not have been possible without the help of manystudents, house staff, and colleagues, who made me understand nephrology andmanage patients appropriately.
