Visual Basic .NET Programming with Peter Aitken by Peter Aitken ISBN 9781576109618, 576109615 instant download

For many years, Microsoft Visual Basic has been the world’s most
popular programming language. There are good reasons for this
wide acceptance. From its very beginning over ten years ago, Vi'
sual Basic has brought unmatched flexibility and ease of
programming to the Windows platform. Many features that are
now standard in other programming languages were first seen in
Visual Basic. In its previous six versions, Visual Basic evolved into
an extremely powerful development tool that was equally at home
in business, academia, engineering, or everywhere else in which
Windows applications were being created.
The latest version of Visual Basic, called Visual Basic .NET (say
“dotmet”), is the most significant evolutionary change yet in the
language. At its heart is the totally new .NET framework, a rich and
powerful set of classes that provides support for just about any imag'
inable area of programming—desktop, Internet, database, graphics,
and so on. The .NET framework itself is independent of any specific
language, and Visual Basic is one of three languages that Microsoft
provides for use with .NET (the others being C# and C+ + ).
Learning to program in Visual Basic .NET consists of two related
parts: learning the Visual Basic language and learning the .NET
framework. This book covers both in a logically organized and
clearly presented manner. I start at the beginning, explaining the
concepts and goals of Visual Basic .NET and describing how the
various parts relate to one another. Then I cover the details of
using Visual Studio, the sophisticated development environment
that you will use to create and test your applications. The next two
chapters provide complete coverage of the Visual Basic language:
keywords, syntax, data storage, and so on. Two later chapters cover
Visual Basic’s new object'oriented programming capabilities. The
remainder of this book’s chapters delves into a wide variety of spe^
cific programming topics, such as creation of desktop and Web
applications, database access, graphic…
