As the field of medical oncology evolves, we have developed a new format for the third editionof this textbook, now titled: Tumor Board Review: Evidence-Based Case Reviews andQuestions. Here we include recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of the most commonmalignancies encountered by oncology providers. The text includes recently publishedclinical studies and updated cancer guidelines. Further, we discuss the importance of geneticmutations in the selection of anticancer drugs (e.g., BRAF mutations in melanoma) based onPhase III clinical trials in both solid tumors and hematologic malignancies. The content of thisthird edition represents our best effort to incorporate and highlight the most recent clinicallyrelevant data in our field. We continue to use a case-based format, but each oncologic diseasetype is now presented in a tumor board format, with a brief synopsis of a patient case followedby a discussion of the imaging and molecular and/or genomic sequencing required for a correctdiagnosis. We finish each chapter with a dialogue on staging and treatment including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted agent regimens. Finally, we close with pertinent informationrelated to follow-up and survivorship. Up to 10 board-style questions are also includedat the end of each chapter to help enhance the reader's knowledge base.
