(Ebook) Trace Chemical Sensing of Explosives by Ronald L. Woodfin ISBN 9780471738398, 0471738395

Trace Chemical Sensing of Explosives is a well-written book consisting of fifteen chapters - each written by one or more experts in each subject. Each chapter reads like a feature article in a quality magazine with good pace and illustrations. A nod goes to editor Ronald Woodfin for providing continuity from cover to cover. My only complaint is the title. Don't expect dry accounts of laboratory performance. Instead, expect to find information in each chapter that can be used in workplace applications. The authors understand the importance of relating theory to field applications and their experience shows throughout. The book presents just the right amount of history and "the basics" and then focuses on present technologies and emerging ideas. Some of the chapters: "What to Detect", "Dangerous Innovations", "Where Should We Look For Explosive Molecules?". More topics: plume modeling in air and water, amplifying fluorescence polymers (FIDO), IMS, mass spec, nano sensing and more. This book contains many nuggets of information that can make field work more effective.
