Time Reborn: From the Crisis of Physics to the Future of the Universe by Lee Smolin ISBN 9781846142994, 1846142997 instant download

This book provides a complex re-evaluation of the role of time in the universe. No one doubts that space is real. If the cosmos were empty, space would exist, but there would be no time, because time is inextricably bound up with the material universe and has ontological status at the heart of nature. Although Plato, Newton, and Einstein taught that time was an illusion which humans needed to transcend in order to achieve true understanding, this book argues instead that embracing the reality of time is the key to solving the great problems of physics. The book concludes that it is a fallacy to believe that one can predict the future state of a system simply by knowing the forces acting upon it. This only works for limited areas and across short periods, but it fails on a universal scale. The reality is that natural laws are less immutable than time.
