(Ebook) Miller’s Basics of Anesthesia by Manuel C. Pardo Jr. ISBN 9780323796781, 9780323796774, 032379677X, 0323796788

Basics of Anesthesia was first published in 1984 with theeditorial leadership of Robert K. Stoelting and RonaldD. Miller. Their goal was to provide a concise sourceof information for the entire community of anesthesialearners, including students, residents, fellows, and othertrainees. This eighth edition—the first without Dr. Milleras an editor—continues the pursuit of that goal whileacknowledging how the specialty has evolved. The totalnumber of chapters (49) is two fewer than the prioredition. Separate chapters on topics such as congenitalheart disease and awareness were removed, but thesesubjects are now covered in other chapters. New chaptersfocus on clinician well-being, point-of-care ultrasound, perioperative medicine, and the environmental impact ofanesthetics. The title “basics” belies the fact that chaptershave more references than prior editions, consistent withthe growth in knowledge and scholarly publications inthe field. This eighth edition is the first to be called Miller'sBasics of Anesthesia, in recognition of Dr. Miller's leadershipof the book throughout his career. It was an honor tocollaborate with Dr. Miller on the sixth and seventh editionsof this book, and I look forward to the challenge ofmaintaining its excellence as a learning resource.I am thankful to the authors who contributed to thisedition—an international group that includes over 35new authors. My experience with the pandemic has onlyincreased the gratitude I feel for all who contributed despitethe impact on our personal and professional lives. Finally,I would like to acknowledge our publisher, Elsevier, andthe dedication of their staff, including publisher SarahBarth, senior content strategist Kayla Wolfe, senior contentdevelopment specialist Ann Ruzycka Anderson, and seniorproject manager Beula Christopher—I appreciated our manyZoom calls to keep the book on track for publication.
