(Ebook) Marx, Uno and the Critique of Economics: Towards an Ex-Capitalist Transition by Thomas T. Sekine ISBN 9783031226298, 9783031226304, 3031226291, 3031226305

This book offers an incisive assessment of the work of Kozo Uno and his approach to Marxian political economy by one of the foremost interpreters of Uno’s work, Thomas Sekine. Written in the style of a two-part interview with the author, the book exhibits Sekine’s thinking on both the methodological and theoretical innovations developed by Uno, as well as his own original approach to economics as a mode of posing fundamental questions of social and political existence. The book explores Uno’s two basic levels of analysis for political economy: the genriron (the theory of fundamental principles or the theory of a ‘purely capitalist society’) and the dankairon (the theory of the stages of capitalist development). Uno’s work is extended by Sekine’s particular focus on the ‘ex-capitalist transition’, with a discussion of topics ranging from global banking to the history of socialist states. It outlines Sekine’s unique contribution to theories of money and the welfare state, his engagement with other key socialist economists, and his interpretation of the history of capitalism after WWI, taking up and developing Uno’s work on how best to analyse capitalism for the purposes of socialist revolution. This book will be of interest to a broad range of economists in both the mainstream and heterodox schools, and those broadly interested in the history of economic thought.
