Author: A. M. Mills

Holiness in the Book of Romans centers around Romans 5:1-2: “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.” There are two blessings in Gods saving grace - the first blessing takes place when people repent of their sin and the second blessing takes place when the repentant gains access to freedom from sin. This work defines sin as power or principle which reveals itself in hereditary corruption. The believer will accept deliverance from sin, will receive a holy heart, and will be fitted for eternal companionship with God. Therefore, believers are not bound by the law but have been set free to walk the paths of holiness without the compulsion of the law. Hills argues that there has to be condemnation for sin in the flesh so that the removal of the practice of sin is evident in the believer. He then makes an appeal to for believers to present themselves anew to God for the second blessing as proclaimed in the twelfth chapter of Romans. Finally, in the last chapter titled Sanctified by the Holy Spirit, Hills illustrates the promises made in the books of Isaiah and Ezekiel to which Jesus alluded as he was preparing to ascend into heaven.
