41 reviewsIt is my endeavour, through this book to give a comprehensible insight on constructional details
of piston engines of various types that are commonly used in the aircraft as power plant and about
their sub-systems such as typical induction system, supercharging system, cooling system, exhaust
system, lubrication system, fuel system including the aircraft fuel system, carburettors and fuel
injection system, ignition system, starting system, starting, stopping and various operating procedure,
various inspections and overhaul procedures.
Fundamentals of aero-engine is designed and prepared in a simple language for the guidance and
easy understanding of a beginner; a student of Bachelor of Engineering in Aeronautical branch, in
accordance with the syllabus approved by AICTE based on my exposure in the field of aviation over
four decades in various capacities, including my most valuable teaching experience as a faculty in
armed forces and in engineering colleges.
As you go through this book, it will be easy for you as a student of aeronautical engineering to
understand the basics of an aero-engine of internal combustion type and will also enable you to have
an exposure on different types of piston engines that are used as power plants on an aircraft along
with their constructional, operational and essential inspections and maintenance details.
Last, but not the least, I will be failing in my duties if I do not make a special mention, about the
most valuable tips and advice given by my beloved father and my beloved and reverend gurus, at this
juncture before imparting the learnt knowledge to the fellow engineers.
It would be my next attempt to give similar details about various types of turbojet engines, used
as power plants of aircraft.
