<p>As I climbed over the hexagonal stones formed by ancient volcanic fire, I couldn’t help but notice their uncanny  resemblance to rock formations found near my home in Virginia and reflect on the surprising geological truth that once connected these distant lands. Along the way, gulls cried overhead, wildflowers bloomed, and the legends of Fionn mac Cumhaill swirled with the salt spray in the air.</p>
