(Ebook) Family Medicine: Ambulatory Care and Prevention by Mark Mengel, L. Schwiebert ISBN 9780071494564, 0071494561

This is an amazing book to keep around. It has an extraordinary amount of information in a listed outline format. The conditions are listed by complaint ("Low Back Pain", "Cough"). This is extremely helpful for any medical student or resident trying to work on tuning their differential diagnosis skills or for looking up how you would work up a condition. It gives all the latest guidelines on how to treat and diagnose conditions along with the presentations that are most likely seen in a clinical setting. It is too thick of a book to use on clinical rotations but would be an excellent primary source for a resident in family med or even internal medicine. I used it mostly as a reference while in family medicine clerkship and was happy enough with it that I bought a copy. Frankly, it is the bread and butter information that any respectable doctor should know. For me, it covered 90% of all complaints that I saw while on my clerkship. The only real down side is that the book is rather advanced. If you haven't been to 2-3 yrs of medical school and you don't understand that pathology of a disease just by reading the name of the syndrome (ie- Reiter's syndrome) this book is too complex for you.
