(Ebook) Development of a Biokinetic Model for Radionuclide-Contaminated Wounds for Their Assessment, Dosimetry and Treatment (2006) (Ncrp Report) by Ncrp Publications ISBN 9780929600932, 9781435610255, 0929600932, 1435610253

Although most attention given to radionuclide-contaminated wounds is reserved for cases of ingestion and inhalation, more than 2,100 cases of contamination through wounds can be found in scientific literature. Such wounds can occur in laboratories and in the nuclear power industry, and have been reported in the 1991 Persian Gulf War. This presents a model for assessment, dosimetry, and treatment, starting with background information on skin biology, the etiology of radionuclide-contaminated wounds, and generic models for radiocuclides in wounds. It continues with exposure assessment and dosimetry, including indirect bioassay measurements and data interpretation and medical management. Appendices include sources and data on dissolved radionuclides in experimental wounds, insoluble radionuclides deposited in experimental wounds, translocation of radionuclides from wounds, worked examples of the wound, radiation detectors and calibration and wound pathobiology.
