Chronicles from the tunnel by Giuliano Pergreffi instant download
After the implosion of Europe, caught in the geopolitical grip
between East and West and undermined by the ineptitude of its
ruling class, a new form of social aggregation emerges, first by
chance and then out of necessity.
Two centuries after the implosion, the tunnel civilisation is
complete. The new social system is rich in individuality but also
capable of complex social patterns, where the shadow of the future
is long, human groups (and not only) are not too numerous, and the
payoff of collaborative patterns is greater than that of deception. A
society where non-zero-sum games are the most convenient.
Bitcoin regains its function as a reliable and deflationary currency
(perhaps the one for which it was designed), lost in the decades
prior to its implosion, when, raped by neoliberalism, it was treated
like any other speculative asset. Its proper function is regained
thanks to a temporary blitz by its protagonists. The sustainable
religion is Pastafarianism, which has wiped out all the pagan sects of
the past, without exception.
The setting is the former Brenner Base Tunnel, which has become
the centre of a new civilisation, but also a crossroads of experiences
bordering on the metaphysical (if not esoteric) and a place of
residence for alien and post-human beings with surprising qualities
and properties. The tunnel cities, which have sprung up in the
former main hubs, are teeming with new life and play a crucial role
in repelling the attacks that external, hierarchical but disorganised
forces launch against the new civilisation.
The narrative tone is dystopian, irreverent, ironic and parodic, set
in an unexpected dystopian future; perhaps an attempt at
sustainable existence.
