(Ebook) CAMBRIDGE REFERENCE GRAMMARS - A Reference Grammar of Russian (2004) by Alan Timberlake ISBN 9780521772921, 0521772923

A Reference Grammar of Russian (Reference Grammars) I got this bok for a modest $65 from an Amazon used book dealer in pristine condition. Timberlake takes a different view toward grammar than does Offord Using Russian: A Guide to Contemporary Usage. Instead of just a review of grammar with a view to usage, Timberlake also provides a bit of a linguistic approach as well. To me, this is more advantageous as learning some of the reasoning behind some of the usage of grammar rather than "this is just the way that it is" is more informative and can also help the grammatical information to anchor a bit better in the mind of the learner. So far, I have not been able to NOT find an answer in Timberlake's work although, and this is the disadvantage, one does need to know a few more linguistic terms to really help one along in finding the necessary information. Fortunately, Timberlake keeps away from such an over reliance on linguistics that this would be the ONLY way to find his grammatical explanations. I recommend this book wholeheartedly and, as a companion, one to the other, would also include Offord's book as well.
