Why a new book? This was a question we too asked ourselvesbefore starting work upon this book. The answerlies in the experience of teaching and interaction withmany colleagues. Most of the textbooks and referencebooks follow an etiological approach (i.e., they describeviral skin conditions together), and thus, readers learnabout varicella and common warts in the same chapter.This arrangement of entities does not help readers, especiallythe beginners, in developing their clinical acumen.Diagnostic skills depend on generating as well as excludingdifferentials for a given presentation based on morphology(and other details), and thus it is understandablethat a book discussing dermatoses based on morphologicalsimilarities and differences will help readers improvetheir clinical skills. Hence, we decided to work upon anatlas of dermatology tailored to the interest and need ofyoung clinicians and trainees.Dermatology being primarily a visual science, clinchingdiagnosis fairly depends upon the mental imagethat one forms out of innumerable visual impressionsabsorbed during clinical training, fortified by soundtheoretical learning and the knowledge of appropriateinvestigative methods. Adequate memory image developmentdemands repetitive exposure to clinical casesand appreciation of minute variations in the presentationof lesions. Images in different forms such as printand digital supportive media further aid in acquiringvisual skills. This atlas is enriched with numerous clinicalimages, depicting the spectrum of morphologicalchanges in colored skin. We are sure the rich collectionof images will appeal to every clinician dealing with dermatosesin colored skin.
