A Poetics of Minds and Madness: Fiction, Cognition and Interpretation. by Xinran Yang ISBN 9789819952496, 9819952492 instant download

The aim of this monograph is to explore the relationship between consciousness and narrative through a cognitive-narratological study of mad minds in fiction. Situated at the intersection of narrative and cognitive science (cognitive linguistics, cognitive psychology, and cognitive neuropsychology), this work takes an indirect, empirical approach to the artistic representation of madness. American writer Ken Kesey's novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest serves as the primary text for this study, with due consideration given to other narratives of madness where appropriate. This book not only demonstrates the value of reading and rereading literary classics in the contemporary era but also sheds light on the study of cognitive narratology, cognitive poetics, narratives of madness, and literature in general.
